Customer told me my panel wiring looked "unprofessional" last week

She pointed out the bundle of extra wire loops behind the keypad, so I started trimming and labeling every run clean. Has anyone else had a homeowner call them out on appearance instead of function?

Huh. Yeah that's a tough one. Did you ask her what she thought was unprofessional about it, or did you just go ahead and fix it based on her pointing at the wire loops? I'm curious because sometimes people just see a mess of wires and assume it's bad work, even if it's completely fine and code compliant. Like, did she want it to look like a factory assembly line or just not have a rat's nest behind the cover plate? I've run into homeowners who think every wire should be the exact same length and zip-tied perfectly straight, but that's overkill for a residential job. The real question is whether she had a valid safety concern or if she was just nitpicking on looks.

Dude yes, I've had almost the exact same thing lol. Some people just see wires and freak out even if it's totally fine and up to code. I had one client who wanted me to redo an entire panel because the wires weren't "perfectly parallel" or whatever, even though there was nothing wrong with it. Like, sorry my work isn't a piece of art, it's electricity and it works lol.
