That old school foil method on windows I used to roll my eyes at
I had a customer in Phoenix insist on foil tape on his sliding glass doors last spring. I told him it was outdated and ugly, but he was adamant. So I did it his way just to shut him up. Well, three months later I came back to swap a panel and saw the foil had caught a break before the sensor even triggered. That's what convinced me old school tricks still have a place. Any other installers out there have a method they doubted that turned out to save the day?

Wait did your buddy have issues with the sensor not tripping before the break? I had a friend in Tucson swear by the cheap hardware store foil and he said once it gets wrinkled it messes up the connection somehow. His AC guy actually told him to swap it every six months or it'd stop working.

Man, thats a good story. I gotta ask though, what kind of foil tape did you use? Ive tried a few different brands over the years and some of them just peel off in the heat or lose their stick after a few months. The cheap stuff wont last through a single Arizona summer. Was it the actual metal kind or the plastic backed stuff?
