Never cared about light pollution until I saw a photo from a dark sky reserve
I used to think light pollution was just a minor annoyance. Then I looked up a comparison of the Milky Way shot from my backyard in Dallas versus one taken at Big Bend National Park, and the difference was stunning. Have any of you noticed a big change when you got away from city lights?

Oh man, that first time seeing the Milky Way is something else... it really hits you different. I grew up near Chicago and didn't get what the big deal was until I drove out to a friend's cabin in rural Wisconsin. The sky looked fake, like someone painted it on a ceiling. Definitely felt a little robbed knowing most people only see a handful of stars their whole lives.

Went camping in New Mexico last year. First time seeing the Milky Way with my own eyes. Kinda made me sad what we miss out on every day.

That painted-on-ceiling feeling @kelly.robin mentioned is so real - I got the same thing the first time I saw a truly dark sky and it's weirdly emotional (in a good way) to realize how much we're missing under all those city lights. It's like finding out you've been watching a movie in black and white your whole life when it was actually in color.
