A customer's comment about my torque wrench changed my whole routine
I was doing a brake job on a 2018 F-150 last week and the guy watched me torque his lug nuts... he asked if I checked my wrench against a tester often. I admitted it had been maybe 8 months. He said, 'That's a guess, not a spec.' It hit me hard. I borrowed a calibration tester from a buddy's shop the next day and mine was off by almost 15 foot-pounds on the high end. Now I put a reminder in my phone to check it every 90 days. What's a realistic calibration schedule for a busy shop without going overboard?

Reminds me of when my roommate tried to use our blender to crush ice and it just made this awful noise and died. Turns out the manual said not to do that in tiny print on the last page. We basically found the breaking point the company didn't want to test for. Sometimes the best stress test is just someone using the thing without reading the rules first.
