Old barber told me to use cold water for rinsing razors, was dead wrong

He said it keeps the blade sharper longer, but after 3 weeks of nicks and irritation I switched back to hot water and my clients stopped complaining. Anyone else get bad advice from a veteran that didn't pan out?

Honestly, that old barber probably meant well but was stuck in his ways. Hot water actually softens the hair and opens up the pores, making for a much smoother cut without all that tugging. Cold water might keep a blade from dulling as fast in theory, but it makes the hair stiffer and harder to cut cleanly. Ngl, I've gotten similar bad advice from older guys in trades who swore by old-timey fixes that just don't hold up with modern tools. It's like that myth about not washing your tools with soap because it ruins the edge, but really you're just grinding grit in and causing more damage. Sometimes the old ways are just outdated, not better.
