Had to choose between a Park Tool truing stand and a cheap knockoff last month
I went with the cheap one to save $120 and now I'm fighting with it every single wheel build. Should I just bite the bullet and buy the Park Tool now or is there a mid-range option that doesn't suck?

Which part of the cheap stand is giving you the most headache? Is it the lack of adjustment for different rim widths or does the whole thing flex too much when you're trying to get the wheel true? Because if its just the dish adjustment being off, you can sometimes fix that with a longer bolt and some washers. But if the whole base is flexing when you tighten the axle, no amount of tinkering will fix that.

Oh man, tell me about it! I feel like I'm fighting my cheap truing stand more than the actual wheel half the time. The flex is definitely the main issue for me, like I'll get it all dialed in and then sneeze and the whole thing wobbles off center. I swear, my stand has a mind of its own and it just loves to keep me humble. At this point I'm half convinced the bike shop guys can hear me cursing at it from across town.
