That time I snapped a chain 12 miles from my truck in the rain
I was deep in the Pisgah National Forest trails last month, pouring rain, and my chain just snapped clean in half on a steep climb. I had to walk the bike out for two hours because I forgot my quick link in my other pack. Has anyone else had a chain break at the worst possible moment and found a hack to get rolling again without a spare link?

Look, I get that a stick sounds desperate but I have to push back on this. I've been riding Pisgah for eight years and I always pack a spare quick link in my seat pack with a tiny multi-tool that has a chain breaker. On a gnarly descent last spring I snapped a link on Squirrel Gap and had it fixed in under 10 minutes. A stick won't get you rolling - proper spares and knowing how to use them will save your whole ride.

Tried to fix mine with a stick once, just ended up getting poked and laughed at myself for 12 miles.
