Dropped $95 on a bike fit last spring and I honestly can't tell if it helped or hurt
So here's the debate I keep having with myself. Last April I paid $95 for a full bike fit at a shop here in Sacramento because my knees were aching on my 9 mile commute, and the guy moved my saddle up almost an inch, slid it back, and swapped my stem for a shorter one he sold me for $40 more. For the first two weeks my knees felt better, but then my hands started going numb and my lower back got sore on rides I used to do fine. I went back and he tweaked it again for free, but now I'm six months in and still fiddling with the saddle height in my garage like an idiot. On one hand, the knee pain is gone and I get that a real fit helps people with actual injuries. On the other hand, I know guys who just watched a YouTube video, set their saddle by the heel method, and ride 50 miles a week with zero issues. So is a paid fit worth it for a regular commuter or did I just burn $135 to create new problems? Tell me your honest take, because I'm about ready to put everything back where it started.
