Got caught trying to open a clamshell package with my custom folder at the thrift store

Last Sunday I was at this vintage shop in Portland digging through a bin of old Blazers jackets when I found a sweet 90s Starter pullover still in the original plastic. I pulled out my custom wharncliffe folder to open it up, real careful like, and the owner comes running over yelling "Hey! No box cutters on the floor!" I tried to explain it was a custom knife I made myself but she just stared at the brass liners and carbon fiber scales like I was from another planet. She made me take it to the front desk where they have a little teeny safety cutter on a string. Felt pretty ridiculous honestly. Has anyone else had a shopkeeper freak out over a nice pocket knife when all you are doing is trying to open some packaging?

Read something on BladeForums awhile back about a guy getting asked to leave an antique mall for pulling out a folder to cut zip ties off a display case. Thrift store folks just don't get that we're not out here trying to rob the place.

Wait, wasn't it a thrift store not a vintage shop?
