The game store in Austin had a whole shelf of barely used copies of the same expansion

I stopped into this place called Dragon's Lair off 183 last Saturday just to browse. They had a whole display shelf with like 20 copies of this one expansion for a popular card game, all marked as used but still in shrink wrap. The owner told me a guy came in about 6 months back and traded them all in after buying a bunch from a closing store. I guess he realized he didn't have anyone to play with or something. Has anyone else run into a weird bulk trade-in like that at their local shop?

Funny you mention that. I saw a YouTube video last week where a guy in California found an entire pallet of sealed board games at a Goodwill, all from the same collection. Must be some kind of pattern with people buying up inventory and then realizing they don't have the space or the group for it. Twenty copies of the same thing is wild though, what was the owner even thinking? Maybe he was hoping to flip them online but the market just wasn't there.

Respectfully, @brookep27, I see it more as a victim of bad timing than anything.

That many copies of the same expansion is just asking for trouble. The market for used card game stuff is super finicky, especially if it's not the hot new set. His best bet would have been to sell them individually online, but sitting on them that long is just losing money. Sounds like he got stuck with a bad deal and is hoping some local group will finally buy them all up for a tournament or something.
