I bought a set of those cheap mechanic's gloves three years ago based on a single five star review, and they fell apart in a month.

Yeah, "fell apart in a month" sounds about right. I grabbed a pair from a hardware store checkout line once, and the stitching on the thumb just gave out the second time I wore them. They were basically disposable, just thin fabric with those little rubber dots that peeled off. Total waste of money. I learned my lesson about trusting a single good review on the cheap stuff.

Ever check the inside seams before you buy? I've found that cheap ones often have loose threads or weak spots right there, and a quick look can save you from another pair that falls apart. What brand were the ones you got?
