Dropped $80 on a genuine Pentax mirror box part that fixed my K1000's shutter lag overnight
Paid $80 for a genuine Pentax mirror box part off a salvage body and it fixed my K1000's sticky shutter issue that I'd been chasing for three weekends straight, anyone else trust OEM parts over aftermarket for these older SLRs?

Wait, have you actually compared an OEM part side by side with a quality aftermarket one on a K1000? I've rebuilt a few of these and honestly, the aftermarket stuff from places like Micro-Tools works just as good for mirror box parts. The tolerances on a K1000 aren't that tight, it's a tank of a camera designed to be sloppy and keep working. I think a lot of people get burned by the cheapest no-name stuff on eBay and then blame all aftermarket parts, but there's a middle ground. You can save $40 and still get a solid fix if you know where to look, have you tried any of the better aftermarket suppliers?

oh man, i had a buddy who tried to fix his old minolta with a cheap aftermarket part off ebay and it totally messed up his light meter. spent like two weeks trying to calibrate it before he gave up and found a genuine part from a junker body. works perfect now but he swears he'll never cheap out again. i guess with these old cameras, the tolerances are just so tight that even a tiny difference in the plastic or metal can throw everything off. good to hear your pentax is back in action though, nothing worse than sinking time into a repair that doesnt stick.
