Fancy silicone brush set set me back $40 and I regret nothing
Picked up a three piece silicone brush kit from a tool show in Nashville last spring. Cost me $40 and I figured they'd fall apart in a month. Instead they survived creosote buildup on six heavy jobs and still look new. The old wire brushes I used would leave scratch marks on clay flues but these things are gentle. I can actually feel the difference in the draft now after a cleaning. Anybody else shell out for weird specialty tools that turned out worth it?

Oh boy, a $40 brush set that's still going strong after six jobs. Sounds like the honeymoon phase to me. Give it a few more hard seasons with real soot and those silicone bristles will probably start breaking down or warping from the heat. I've seen too many "miracle" tools that don't hold up past the first year to get excited over a few months of use. Glad it's working for now, but I'd keep the old wire brushes around just in case.

Six jobs? That's barely a break-in period for a brush set, come on. I wouldn't even trust my old wire brushes that fast, let alone some fancy silicone thing.
