I finally gave in and tried the shop vac trick for stubborn ash
For years I insisted on scraping every bit of ash out by hand. Then last month I had a job on Pine Street with a fireplace that hadn't been cleaned since 2019 and it took me 45 minutes just on the first pass. I borrowed a friend's rigid shop vac with a HEPA filter and finished the whole thing in 20 minutes flat. Has anyone else found a good nozzle attachment that doesn't clog up after one use?

honestly the real game changer for me was putting a cheap dryer sheet over the intake before the filter, catches the fine stuff before it even hits the HEPA. keeps the shop vac running strong way longer.

Yeah @park.tara that little hack really shows how tiny tweaks can solve bigger problems in life.

Not sure that tiny tweak actually fixes the root clog, just pushes the problem deeper into the system.
