Overheard my neighbor say he skips mulching leaves because it "looks messy"

I was out front last week raking some leaves off the driveway and my neighbor from three doors down walked by. He said he just bags all his leaves for the city to pick up because mulching them with the mower makes his lawn look trashy. I told him I've been mulching for maybe 7 years now and it basically feeds my grass for free, no fertilizer needed. He looked at me like I was speaking another language. Anybody else deal with people who think tidiness is more important than actually helping the soil?

Is he the same guy who vacuums his driveway and power washes his trash cans on Saturdays? You can't mulch leaves because it looks messy, but bagging them up in black plastic and having a truck haul them to a dump is somehow better for the planet?
