Picked a heat pump over a new furnace last October in Duluth
My old gas furnace died in October and I had to choose fast between another gas unit or a cold climate heat pump. I picked the heat pump, a Mitsubishi model rated for minus 13, and it cost me about $4,200 after a $2,000 rebate from the state. It has run all winter here in Duluth, even through that week in January when we hit minus 20, and the house stayed at 68 the whole time. My electric bill went up maybe $40 a month but I am not buying gas anymore, so it mostly evens out. Curious if anyone else up north has run one through a few winters and how it held up.
