Overheard a stylist say dry cutting ruins hair texture and I have thoughts
I was at a supply shop last Tuesday and heard two stylists arguing about dry cutting versus wet cutting. One said dry cutting causes split ends because you cant see the hair's natural fall, the other said wet cutting hides how hair actually lays and leads to uneven layers. I've been doing both for about three years now and honestly I think it depends on the client. For someone with tight curls dry cutting gives a way better shape, but for straight fine hair wet cutting feels safer to avoid taking too much off. I started doing more dry cuts after a client in Portland complained her wet cut looked perfect in the chair but weird once it dried. What do you guys do, do you stick to one method or switch it up based on the hair type?

Heard that argument so many times and honestly still don't get the drama. Dry cutting for curls is the only way I've ever seen good results, wet cutting just makes them shrink up weird. Portland client story checks out though, that's basically every curly person's origin story.

Wet cutting has its place though, especially if you're trimming for shape while the curls are elongated and easier to see.
