Wait, you were hauling a $2,000 load and nobody told you about that swinging issue until AFTER you lost it? That's insane. I would be so mad, that old timer could have saved you a ton of money if he spoke up earlier. I swear some people at yards love to watch you mess up just to say "I told you so" later. That's a rough lesson to learn the hard way, man.
