Used to tape all my drywall seams with mesh, now I stick to paper tape

For years I'd use mesh tape on every joint because it seemed easier to press into the mud. But after a big ceiling job last spring (that's 12-foot sheets, not fun), I had cracks show up in three spots within 2 months. Switched to paper tape on my next bedroom project and haven't had a single crack since. Anyone else made the switch and noticed a difference in long-term durability?

Wait, you had cracks showing up in just two months with mesh tape on a ceiling job? That's wild, I've never seen that happen that fast before! I always figured mesh was the stronger stuff since it's literally got fiberglass in it, but now I'm rethinking my whole approach to taping.

Right? Kinda like how the "toughest looking" option often fails first in real life.
