Overheard a pressing guy say 'used vinyl is better than new pressings' and now I'm questioning my whole DIY setup
He claimed the recycled pellets in new records warp faster, but my hand-pressed discs sound cleaner after 10 plays - anyone else notice a difference in longevity between fresh polyurethane and repurposed stock?

New pellets are way more consistent in density from batch to batch. Those recycled pellets have already been heated and cooled once, so the polymer chains break down a little. That means they age faster and can shrink or warp unevenly over time. Fresh polyurethane starts off way more stable, so even if it sounds a little stiff at first, it stays true way longer. I've got new pressings that still play flat after years, while some of my recycled ones started giving me fit issues inside of 12 months.

Oh man, you nailed it! I had the exact same thing happen with a pair of recycled ones I bought last year. They sounded fine at first but started wobbling on the table after like 8 months, drives me crazy. Fresh pellets have been night and day different for me too.
