Stop chasing perfect grooves on a home lathe - it's a trap
Spent 3 years trying to get dead quiet cuts on my Presto 6N, swapping styli, tweaking heat, the whole deal. Last month I cut a record with intentional surface noise as a texture and people actually liked it more. Anyone else found that rough edges sound better for certain music?

...and here I was thinking I was just bad at the whole thing. I spent two years on a Wilcox Gay Recordio trying to get a cut that didn't sound like bacon frying in a tin can. Finally gave up and left the natural hiss in for a folk record I was making about old barns and rust. Sold more copies than my clean ones ever did. Funny how that works.

Did you ever figure out that the dirtier it sounds the more people seem to want it? I had a tape of me singing in a basement with a busted mic that somehow felt more real than the stuff I spent months on.
