Torque wrench calibration surprised me this morning

Took my old clicker style torque wrench into the calibration rig at the hangar, figured it was close enough. Barely passed at 200 ft lbs, it was reading 9 ft lbs high right out of the box. Has anyone else found their tools drifting that much between annual checks?

I mean, I get where you're coming from with the 9 ft lbs thing, but honestly that doesn't surprise me much. Those clicker style wrenches have a lot of moving parts inside, and if you're using them heavy, they're gonna drift. I've seen guys treat theirs like they're indestructible and then wonder why they're off at the next check. Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather have mine reading a little high than low, since a low reading means you're over-torquing without knowing it. Plus, most shops I've dealt with say yearly is the bare minimum, so you're probably due for some wear anyway. Not saying it's fine, but it sounds like your tool did its job by telling you it was off before you really needed it.
