Went back to a panel I installed in 2018, the wiring looked different

I swapped a control board at a warehouse in St. Louis that had my original zone labels from five years ago, and the tech before me had rerouted the entire loop through the ceiling using unlabeled 18/2. The original install was straight lines and zip ties, now it looks like spaghetti with three splices I had to trace with a toner. Anyone else run into their old work getting butchered after a few years and just laugh it off?
