Guy at the supply house told me to stop testing caps with my ohm meter, and it stung but he was right
I was at the counter picking up a run cap last Tuesday and the old guy behind the register watched me check it with my meter and just shook his head. He told me an ohm meter only shows a cap is dead, never that it is good, and that I was guessing on half my calls. I picked up a $78 cap tester that afternoon and in the first week I found 4 caps that read fine on ohms but were way off on microfarads. Now I test every cap before I tell a customer their compressor is going. What do you all use to check run caps, or am I late to the party here?
