Spent 4 hours on a dryer that just needed the vent cleaned, and I'm still mad about it
Lady in Clearwater calls me out for a dryer taking 2 cycles to dry a load. I get there, pull the back panel, test the heating element, thermostat, thermal fuse, cycling thermostat, all good. Check the blower wheel, clean. Motor ohms out fine. I'm pulling lint out of every crevice for an hour. Put it back together, still running hot but slow. Finally check the vent run going up through the attic and its packed solid with lint for about 12 feet. Shop vac and a brush on a drill, 20 minutes, done. She runs a load and it dries in 40 minutes. I charged her $85 for the trip and felt like a crook because it was a vent cleaning, not a repair. What do you all charge when it turns out to be the vent? And do you quote vent cleaning separate or just eat it?
