Hit 1000 hours on a single climbing saw and it's still my go-to

I just checked the logbook for my Stihl 201T and the meter rolled over to 1000 hours this morning. That's a full year of hard climbing and cutting, mostly on big oaks and maples around the city. I was sure I'd have swapped it out for something newer by now, but it starts first pull every time, even after sitting for a week. It makes me think we push for new gear way too fast when the old stuff, if you take care of it, just works. Anyone else have a piece of kit that just won't quit?

Ever think you need new gear?

My rain jacket from 2009 still has the original tube of seam sealer in the pocket, completely dried out. The zipper pulls are all mismatched replacements from other broken gear. Honestly, if it still keeps most of the water out, I call that a win. New gear is for people whose stuff actually falls apart.

Honestly my rain gear looks like a Frankenstein project at this point. Got a patch from an old tent glued over one elbow, and the hood drawstring is just a shoelace. Still works fine for walking the dog though, which is all I really need it to do. Buying a new one feels like giving up on a loyal friend. Besides, a little water never hurt anyone, it builds character.
