Paid $340 for a Silky pole saw and knocked out a dead water oak limb in 20 minutes
Last Tuesday I finally pulled the trigger on a Silky Hayauchi after swearing my old hand saw was good enough, and that limb sitting over the Hendersonville driveway that scared me for 6 months came down clean in about 20 minutes instead of the hour plus I used to fight through, so now I'm wondering what other jobs I've been making harder on myself by cheaping out, what's the one tool you finally bought that paid for itself the first day?
Fifteen years of fighting a $20 saw and a dull file is wild, @veramartin, that's not stubbornness that's straight up self punishment. The hedge finish before your wife got back is the funniest part, she probably thought you hired somebody.
Did you know you can spend like 15 years telling yourself a $20 hardware store saw is "basically the same thing" and then feel like a total idiot the second a real blade touches wood? That was me with pruners, I fought thick branches with the cheap ones for years, pinching and cussing, till my wife got me a good bypass pair for my birthday and I finished the whole hedge before she came back from the store. Same deal with my chainsaw file too, I used a dull one forever and thought sharpening just took an hour, nope, it was the file. So yeah, the cheap stuff costs you in time and anger, not just money. My back still holds a grudge about all those years of leaning and yanking, lol. Now I want to know what the next one is before I waste another six months being stubborn.
