A random chat with a librarian changed how I see old coins

I was at the city library in Tucson last week helping a friend with a research project on local mining history. This older librarian overheard us and said, "You know those coins you find in the dirt are just the receipts, not the real story." She explained that the marks on them tell you about trade routes, who was in power, and even what people ate. Now I can't stop looking at every artifact I dig up and wondering what it really meant to the person who dropped it. Has anyone else had a chance meeting like that where someone reframed how you interpret a find?

Notice that same pattern everywhere once you start hunting for it. That dented can in your pantry, the wear pattern on your front door handle, even the faded logo on a t-shirt you've owned for years. Every object carries clues if you bother to look past the surface. It turns the whole world into a detective story, not just the stuff you dig up.
