Dropped $400 on a fake amphora from a sketchy dealer in Cairo

I bought what I thought was a Roman amphora from a market stall near the Egyptian Museum, guy swore it was from a 2nd century shipwreck. Got it home, paid a lab $150 for thermoluminescence testing, and it turned out to be 20 years old with modern glue still in the cracks. Has anyone else gotten burned by souvenir shop fakes, or do you have a rule for spotting them before you pull out your wallet?
