Found 40 roman nails at a dig in Chester, then the site map lied

Last Saturday I was volunteering on a trench near the old barracks and pulled out a fistful of corroded iron nails, all in a neat cluster. The site supervisor said they were probably from a looted strongbox, but the grid map showed a latrine pit two meters off, so has anyone else seen finds get mislabeled like that when the original notes were sloppy?
