Why I think the 'lost civilization' hype around Gobekli Tepe is way overblown
A buddy sent me that new documentary about Gobekli Tepe last week and I had to turn it off after 20 minutes. Everyone keeps saying it 'rewrites history' but the excavators themselves have published that the site is roughly 11,600 years old and built by normal hunter gatherers, not some mystery group. I actually got into a long argument about this at a museum talk in Chicago back in March and the archaeologist speaking agreed with me. The real find is amazing without the ancient aliens stuff tacked on. Does anyone have a good book that covers the actual dig reports instead of the hype?
