I was stacking my sky frames wrong for 2 years until a guy at the Tucson star party pointed it out
I used to add all my light frames one by one into DeepSkyStacker and just let it rip, thinking more subs always meant a cleaner shot. Then at the Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association star party in March, a guy named Rick asked why my Orion Nebula pics looked so muddy when I had 180 subs of data. He showed me I needed to cull the bad frames first, and it turns out I was averaging in 40 shots with plane trails and thin clouds that were wrecking the whole stack. Does anyone else cull before stacking, or do you just let the software sort it out?
