The guy at my local star party told me my moon photo looked like a flashlight in a sock
I was at the Beaver Creek reservoir star party back in August showing people my best moon shot on my phone when one older guy leaned in and said it looked like a flashlight in a sock. I laughed it off at first but then he pulled out a printed photo he took with a 20 dollar garage sale lens that made my shot look terrible. What do you all do when someone gives you honest feedback like that, do you take the advice or just keep shooting your own way?
A flashlight in a sock is honestly a top tier insult, that guy could have just said "nice blurry blob" like a normal person. But the 20 dollar garage sale lens detail is the part that stings, because that means his photo cost less than your gas money to get to Beaver Creek. My move would be to ask him to show me exactly how he shot it, then steal every single trick and beat him next month at the same star party. Feedback like that is annoying but it is also free lessons. Just do not let one old guy with a lucky lens talk you out of shooting the way you like.
