Enclosed vs open trailers, the 1100 mile trip sold me on one

I used to think open haulers were fine for anything, but after watching a gravel truck kick a rock into my buddy's fender on I-80 outside Omaha, I paid the extra $400 for enclosed and never looked back, anyone else get burned by open transport?

Man, that rock story hits home... it's like the universe just waits for the worst possible moment to teach you a lesson about saving a few bucks. Same thing happens with phone cases, you know? You think a $10 one is fine until you drop it on the sidewalk and the screen cracks like an egg. Or those cheap tarps for camping, they seem okay until the rain starts and you're sleeping in a puddle. People always want to believe the bare minimum will work until reality smacks them in the face... then they're out $400 and a fender.
