Open vs enclosed transport for a classic car, which one actually matters?
I read a forum post last week where a guy swore his 1967 Mustang was ruined by open carriers, but another guy said he's shipped 30 cars open with zero issues, so is the extra $400 to $600 for enclosed really worth it or just fear mongering?

Drive my own 73 Cuda cross country twice on open carriers and never had a scratch. That said, I only use enclosed now for anything I plan to keep long term. The rock chips on my buddy's 67 GTO from an open trip were brutal, small dings all over the front end and hood. He paid way more fixing that than the extra 500 bucks would have cost him. Guess it comes down to how much you care about the paint and how far it's going. Short 200 mile hops, open is fine. Cross country, I'd spend the money every time.
