Line guy at BNA told me he tags every cannon plug before he pulls it, and I finally get why
Was grabbing coffee at the FBO in Nashville and this older A&P said he's been doing it for 30 years and never once crossed a connector on reinstall. He said the trick is a strip of masking tape with the J number written on it, folded over the wire, and he keeps a little log in his pocket. I've been lucky so far but I've seen guys spend half a shift chasing a fault that was just two plugs swapped on a flap actuator. Any of you have a system that beats tape, or is that pretty much the standard?
Man, the tape trick is solid but I'd take it a step further and snap a quick phone pic of the whole harness before anything comes apart. That way you've got the J numbers and the exact routing in one shot, and you're not relying on the tape staying stuck after a hot day in the wheel well. Thirty years of tape plus a camera roll beats either one on its own.
