My water filter failed on day 3 of the Rae Lakes Loop in Sequoia

I was halfway through a 5 day trip and my pump broke, leaving me to boil creek water for the rest of the week. Has anyone else had gear fail at the worst possible time on a remote route?

Last year on the JMT I watched my buddy's Jetboil valve seize up solid at 11,000 feet. Used to think boiling water was fine as a backup, but that experience changed my mind. That was day 4 of 9, and we spent every night nursing a pot over a twig fire for coffee and dinner. Took forever and left soot on everything. Now I always pack a second filter even if it adds weight.

Oh MAN that is rough, I had an MSR filter freeze solid on me in the Sierra and a backup iodine kit saved my whole trip!
