The Great Basin route I thought was boring turned out to be the best 60 miles I've hiked
Three summers ago I skipped the High Sierra trailhead and took a random connector through the Nevada desert, figured it'd be flat scrub with zero views. Ended up hitting hot springs, ancient petroglyphs, and a dried lake bed that glowed pink at sunset, all in one 6-day stretch. Anyone else found magic in a section nobody talks about on the maps?
