Vent: took 6 hours to find a river crossing on the Kalalau trail

Got to the last big stream before the final beach stretch last month and the water was way higher than any guide said. Spent 6 hours scrambling up and down looking for a safe spot. Turns out the path was further inland behind some hau trees, but nobody marks it. Almost turned back. Has anyone else wasted a whole day on that crossing or did I just miss something obvious?

Wait, was the crossing you found actually the one people normally take, or did you end up on some sketchy game trail that just happened to work? I'm asking because I've heard of folks thinking they found the "hidden" route behind the hau trees, but it turns out that's just a pig trail that dead-ends upstream. Six hours is brutal, but did you check the flow rate that morning or check the tide charts? That stream backs up with the ocean swell sometimes, and the "safe" spot only exists at low tide. Just trying to figure out if you hit a genuinely unusual condition or if the trail's always that sneaky.
