Had 14 different birds hit my feeders in one morning and I have no idea what I did right
So I've had the same two feeders up since March and it's been pretty boring, mostly just house sparrows and the occasional cardinal. Then Tuesday morning I look out my kitchen window in Columbus around 6:45 and there's a rose breasted grosbeak just sitting on the platform feeder like he owns the place. Within two hours I counted 14 different species, including a scarlet tanager, three indigo buntings, and what I'm pretty sure was a Baltimore oriole but he took off before I could grab my binos. The only thing I changed was swapping my old seed mix for straight black oil sunflower, and I also hung a suet cake in a little cage about 5 feet up. Now I'm worried this was a one day fluke from migration and my yard goes back to being a sparrow hangout. Should I add a water source or a second suet feeder to keep them coming back, or do I just wait and see?
