My dollar store neighbor swears by generic oven cleaner over name brand and I'm starting to think she's right.

Oh man, I've been down this exact road. The trick is that cheap stuff works fine for light messes but you need the heavy duty spray for anything that's been baked on for weeks. If you're doing 3 rounds anyway, just buy the name brand and save yourself the elbow grease.
