Had a close call with a bus on my commute this morning

I was biking down Queen Street in Toronto around 8:30am and a TTC bus cut me off at a stop sign. The driver didn't even signal or check his mirror, just pulled right in front of me. Has anyone else had a scary moment with a city bus and found a way to avoid them?

Honestly the bus driver probably didn't see you coming up that fast.

Did you actually see the driver not check his mirror or are you guessing? Buses have massive blind spots and those mirrors are tiny compared to what you'd expect. I've watched drivers glance and still miss bikes coming up fast on their right side. Here's the thing - you're riding in the city at rush hour on a street with buses. They don't signal half the time because they're focused on not hitting pedestrians and other cars. Your best bet is to stay out of the bus lane entirely and take a different route if possible. Or if you have to ride near them, hang back and give them a full car length before passing. Trying to squeeze by a bus at a stop sign is just asking for trouble.
