A guy at the Portland flea market taught me to match my knife patina to the jacket lining, and it actually works
I have a old Case stockman with a gray patina and a 1970s wool blazer with a silver satin lining, and they looked terrible together on my shelf. The guy selling leather scraps at the Portland flea market told me to rub the blade with a little vinegar and let it sit overnight to darken it to match the jacket. I tried it on a cheap beater first, and by morning the patina had gone from gray to a warm charcoal that actually matched the lining. Now I pick my carry knife based on what jacket I'm wearing that day. Has anyone else tried forcing a patina to match a specific piece, or am I the only weirdo doing this?
