Flea market blade snob made me question my $45 EDC

Saturday morning I'm digging through a bin of old wool blazers in Columbus and this vendor two tables over tells his buddy he'd never trust a knife under 60 bucks for daily use, which is nuts because I've carried a $45 folder for 5 years without a single issue. He then pointed to my pocket and said the steel was probably garbage, so I pulled it out and showed him the edge I put on it last month after a 3 day sharpening session. Has anyone else run into these gatekeepers who think price equals performance, or am I the only one who's had cheap blades outlast the fancy stuff?
