Guy at a car show in Ohio taught me how to sharpen a pocket knife on a coffee mug

He walked over while I was struggling with a dull blade on my vintage blazer lapel and showed me the exact angle to hold it against the rim, and now I never leave home without a ceramic mug handy.

Wait, what angle did he show you exactly? I've tried the mug trick before but mine always comes out feeling kinda scratchy instead of sharp. Was it like a 20 degree thing or did he have you riding the ceramic at a steeper tilt against the unglazed rim?

I pretty much just held it at "whatever angle my shaky hands landed on" lol
