Heard a tailor mention blade steel at a fitting, now I get the overlap

Last weekend I was at a vintage shop in Portland getting a 70s herringbone blazer adjusted, and the tailor started talking about how the old hand shears hold an edge like a well-tempered knife. He said his favorite pair cost him $40 at a flea market and he's used them daily for 12 years. That made me realize the same patience and care we put into hunting down a good pocket knife blade applies to finding a jacket that's built to last. Now I look at stitching and fabric weight the same way I check a tang stamp and lockup. Anyone else find themselves inspecting clothing with the same eye you use on a blade?
