Just realized my grandfather's 1970s plaid blazer fits better than any modern cut I've tried

I was digging through his old closet in Cleveland last month and slipped on this 45-year-old jacket with a custom Opinel knife in the pocket, and the shoulders and lapels sit perfectly while every new sport coat I've bought in the last 10 years pulls across the back, so has anyone else found that older tailoring just works better for everyday carry, or am I chasing nostalgia?
