The $60 'restoration kit' that ruined a decent spine
Saw a kit online for repairing worn book spines, thought it would save me a trip to the supply shop. Spent $60 on it, followed the instructions to the letter, and it turned my favorite binding into a stiff, cracked mess. The glue they sent was way too thick and the cloth backing peeled right off after two days. I ended up spending another $40 on proper materials and a full afternoon fixing my own mistake. Has anyone else tried those all-in-one kits, or do you just stick to the basic paste and linen?
