Vent: A week where every single text block cracked on me, and I still say it was the paper's fault
Everyone keeps saying you have to press text blocks overnight before casing in, but I ran 40 copies of a 300 page novel on 80lb cream stock and 11 of them split right down the spine in the same spot. I was in my basement shop in Tucson with the heat cranked to 68 because my PVA gets thick when it drops, and the humidity was sitting at 22 percent which I now know is a problem. A guy at my supply shop told me to just glue up faster, but adding a half hour of rest between gluing and casing fixed all but one of the next 20 blocks. So my hot take is that rest time matters way more than whatever glue you buy. Anyone else changed their mind about pressing after a bad run like this?
