I used to think my neighbor was just weird about his lawn

Last month, I was walking my dog and saw him on his knees, not pulling weeds, but just looking at the grass. He pointed out three different kinds of clover and a tiny moss I'd never noticed. I realized I'd spent my whole life just seeing a green carpet, not a whole little world of plants. Now I catch myself doing the same thing on my own walks. Has anyone else had a moment where they suddenly started seeing the details instead of the whole picture?

That "HD version" thing is spot on. It's funny how learning one small detail can make you start noticing a hundred others you never saw before.

Yeah, it's like your brain finally loads the HD version. I spent years just seeing "trees" until I got stuck with a field guide on a long car trip. Now I can't unsee how many oaks and maples are on my street. It makes the whole block feel different.
